Let's Talk About...Sleep!

When the going gets tough (and it is certainly tough right now), it's time to focus on our basic needs!


I'm excited to introduce Beyond the Block's new YouTube series "Let's Talk!" The goal of this series is to provide middle and high school students with a personal, virtual school counseling experience. We'll be exploring topics related to school, family, friends, and life.


Our first episode is devoted to sleep 😴😴😴 We explore how our basic needs affect our physical and mental wellbeing and I give some tips on how we can sleep better. This is the first in a series of three episodes about basic needs.

WAYS YOU CAN USE THIS VIDEO:

👉If you are a middle or high school counselor, share the YouTube video with your students and have them report back to you about what they learned. Have a conversation with them about their sleep patterns.

👉If you are a middle or high school teacher, engage in a class experiment. Have your students try the tips suggested in the video for a week. Have them keep a journal of what tips they try each day, how long they sleep each night, and how they feel throughout the week. Then have the class share out what they learned from their self-experiment.

👉If you are a parent, listen to the podcast while you're in the car with your kids or while you're washing dishes. Talk to them about how they feel when they get enough sleep versus how they feel when they don't get enough. Ask your teens how much sleep they need in order to feel their best.
